Recovering In Style

I thoroughly enjoyed the hospital that I delivered at.  The nurses and staff were WODNERFUL and they were all so accomodating.  This post is mostly pictures, which are better anyway, so I hope you enjoy! :)

A Long Awaited Miralce

Cambri is now 5 months old and I'm just barely getting around to writing her birth story! Man time sure does fly when you're having fun raising such a cute little girl! :) Anyway, for those of you that haven't heard the story and for posterity sake, here's the story of our sweet Cambri's entrance to the world.

At my 38 week checkup, like at any other checkup, they weighed me and took my blood pressure.  After taking my blood pressure the nurse decided to let me rest a minute and take it again because it was a little high.  The next time she took it it was still high so she had another nurse come take it with the same results.  My blood pressure had been really good the whole time and it wasn't super high, but just a bit.  My doctor then came in a checked me and I was dialted to . . . a 1 . . . STILL! (I had been at this since 34 weeks!).  Because of my blood pressure they asked me to come back in the next day and have it checked, so I did and . . . same story, it was a little high.  The doctor then decided to have me do some labs to make sure I didn't have pre-eclampsia and schedule an induction for the following Monday (this was a Friday).  I did the labs and luckily no pre-eclampsia. :)

Monday morning rolled around pretty early for me (3:30am) because I just couldn't sleep I was so anxious to meet our baby girl.  To say that Rusty was nervous would be a GIANT understatement!! He is NOT a huge fan of hospitals anyway and was also scared of all the possible complications.

On the way to the hospital we decided to go with Cambri as our baby's name because we just kept coming back to it and it seemed right.  We arrived at the hospital around 7:30am and I was hooked up to the pit and being started by 8:00am.  THANKFULLY, my mom arrived around 10:00am and helped to lighten the mood and ease the tension in the room.  (If you know my mom you know that she is an absolute hoot and a blast to be around so you can imagine what things were like after she arrived.)

About 10am my doctor came in and checked me and said I was STILL a 1, but almost a 2 ;) She decided to go ahead and break my water.  After that things REALLY started moving! At about 11am or so I decided I wanted the Fentanol.  (which is worthless by the way! It doesn't do much and just makes you dizzy and VERY sleepy! NOT helpful!!) That wore off in about 2 seconds and it was epidural time! I recieved my epidural at about noonish and then after it had fully kicked in (about 12:30pm) they checked me and I was an 8!! WAHOOOOO!!!!! :)

My mom was quite jealous of my epidural since she had wanted one with each of us kids, but was never allowed to have one.  At about 3:30pm we were all sitting around watching "Friends" and, of course, laughing our heads off when the nurse checked me and said I was 9 and 3/4 so she was going to get things set up for the delivery.  My mom kept commenting how it just wasn't right that I should be laughing and enjoying a show when I was almost dialated to a 10!! (Love that epidural) ;)

My doctor then came in along with her med student and the pediatric nurse for Cambri, who were all 5ft tall and under.  It was now time to push!! I had waited for this moment for 4 years by the time it rolled around and had imagined it over and over in my mind of what it would be like and the emotions I would feel, etc.  I just couldn't believe the moment was FINALLY here to meet our precious and long awaited baby girl!!

This will give a glimpse into how AWESOME my doctor is.  So in between contractions she turns to Rusty, who is 6ft 6in, and says, "Do you feel like a giant in a land of midgets?" We all about died laughing! Rusty then replied that he felt pretty tall. :) My doctor just did an AMAZING job of keeping the atmosphere calm and relaxed.  She did some perineal massage so I hardly even tore and then took her time with me afterwards and even sent me flowers! How cool is that?! I just LOVE her to pieces!!

Anyway, back to the story, so after 8 hours of labor and about 20 minutes of pushing (I know I'm lucky, huh?!) our sweet, perfect baby girl arrived!!  I think the Lord decided we had waited long enough for her. :) She made her grand entrance into the world at 4:15pm on October 1, 2012 and not a moment too soon because when she was delievered we discovered that the umbilical cord had been wrapped around her neck THREE times!! The nurse couldn't believe it because she never showed any sign of distress (that's my chill little Cambri for ya) so we think it had just occured that day.   She weighed in at 7lbs 15oz and was 21 inches long!

Ok, so now for the good part, here's the pics of the day :)

All hooked up and ready to go!

Rusty anxiously waiting and wanting to be ANYWHERE else!
Poor guy he was SO nervous!!

Right in the middle of a contraction

After the epidural, life is gooooood!! :)

Baby Shower

At the beginning of August my sister, Heather and my mom came up to participate in my baby shower.  My good friend, Mary volunteered to put on the event for me.  It was FABULOUS!! Everyone was so generous and it was so much fun to see all the cute things for my little girl.  I have waited a long time to have my own baby shower and it certainly didn't disappoint! :)

My friend Bobi made this cake.  Isn't it FABULOUS!!!
I have the BEST friends! :)

It was even Zebra striped on the inside!! :)

I (well Cambri really) made out like a bandit! :)

Projects for the Little One

For the first time in a long time I used this summer as a true break from school! I didn't do one thing school related! Instead I kept myself occupied by preparing for my baby girl's arrival. I sewed and crafted until I was sewed and crafted out!! Here are some pics of my creations.
This was a onsie I found at a farmer's market
and HAD to have it! :)

Of course I had to give it a little "style" :)

This is an all-in-one on-the-go changing pad I made.
I was actually pretty proud of myself for this one.
It holds the diapers and wipes and has plastic on one side for changing.

This is what it looks like all folded up.

This is an up close pic of a cotton car seat cover I made to use
next summer.  My baby is so spoiled she gets a cover for every season! :)

This is the back of the cover.

This is the front.

This is a taz bib that I found at the same farmer's market as the onsie.
My husband likes Taz and Looney Tunes so I thought his
daughter could sport this. :)

This is another little onsie that I found and dressed up.
I CAN'T WAIT to see it on her! :)

Sorry this is sideways, but this is my diaper bag.
It is the diaper bag of MY DREAMS!! I LOVE it!!
Although it is proving to be a bit smaller than I had hoped.
Oh well, it's still DANG cute! :)

This is another car seat cover I made.
It has these ADORABLE owls on the  front and
purple fleece on the back.  Nice and cozy for the winter!

Here is a close up of the flannel owls and the handles.

And yet ANOTHER car seat cover. I know, I know I'm spoiling her
already, but I just can't help myself!! :) This one is flannel on both sides.
Perfect for the "transition" seasons up here of fall and spring.

This was my own creation.  My husband and I both have leather seats
in our vehicles and we're pretty particular about it (ESPECIALLY the hubby!)
We always put a blanket down under carseats to prevent the leather from dimpling
and protect it from all the things kids throw and spill in a car.
This is a blanket that will cover the back and bottom of the seat.
The ribbons tie onto the headrests to hold it in place.  I hope it works! :)

This is a soft book I made for when she gets older. :)

I also made a nursing cover, a couple picture frames and some binkie clips.  I have IMMENSLY enjoyed my summer getting ready for my little girl to arrive.  Now the time is getting VERY close and I CAN'T WAIT to see her!! :)
